2009 Competitive Grants

Derek Fisher, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Carroll County Community Foundation has announced the recipients of grants through the Foundation's competitive Community Grants Program for 2009. "Our donors have made gifts to the Foundation's Community Endowment Fund and other unrestricted funds so that we can help to make the community a better place. We believe that these hard working organizations and the programs that these grants support will do that. Thanks again to the donors who have made this possible."

Carroll County Historical Society/Museum - $2,500
Funding will be provided for the "Promoting History of Carroll County" project, which includes providing printed materials to people using the genealogy department, producing quarterly newsletters, and information related to museum's activities.

CDC Resources - $1,200
Grant funding awarded for Day Service programming at the Brooks Center in Carroll County.  Grant funds will be used to purchase equipment to be used by staff to offer more variety in the programs, allow individual instruction on a computer, and provide training videos related to social decisions, money management and personal hygiene.

Delphi Public Library - $2,300
Funds will provide support for an "Early Literacy Station" project.  The Early Literacy Station is an all-in-one learning computer station for children in preschool through the fourth grade.  The station will allow parents and children a place to come and work on technology skills or reinforce or practice skills learned in the school setting.

Focus on the Future - $5,000
A grant was awarded to provide financial support for the 2009 Carroll County at the Crossroads II meetings.  Five years ago, the visioning process was launched through a partnership of the Carroll County Community Foundation and Carroll County Commissioners. At the meetings, critical issues for Carroll County were identified and priorities in addressing them were established.  For more information on the Crossroads efforts, go to www.focus-on-the-future.org.

Town of Camden - $2,000
Grant funds will provide support for the "Restroom Addition" project at the Community Center, which has been designated as an emergency shelter.  The new restroom facilities will accommodate a large number of people staying at the Center in the event of a natural or man-made emergency.

YWCA of Greater Lafayette - $500
Funding will be used to purchase "Outreach Posters" to be displayed in Carroll County.  The YWCA's Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program provides services to victims of domestic violence in Carroll County.  The posters are an outreach effort to educate the community about the issues of domestic violence.
